As horse number 30 was euthanized after a training accident at Santa Anita, the Stronach Group, owners of the California track, took action. They banned trainer, Jerry Hollendorfer, from having any rights to train, stable or race any of his horses at any of their facilities.

American Currency was the fourth horse to die at the track from his stable prompting the owners of Santa Anita to take drastic measures since the death toll has now reached thirty.

Mr. Hollendorfer was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 2011. He was not available to comment on the action taken against him and his stable.

Last week, Gov. Newsom ordered a state panel of veterinarians to evaluate the horses prior to allowing them to race at the track, but American Currency wasn’t slated to race so he was not evaluated.

Sunday is the last day of racing at Santa Anita for the season. Let’s hope the deaths stop at number thirty.
