The 8th running of the Fair Hill Point-to-Point, which takes place in Fair Hill, Maryland, was held on April 21st, Easter Sunday. My Breyer Heart was a vendor and we had the chance to check out a few of the races.

The day was absolutely perfect with clear skies and sunshine. The day included 15 races, tailgating, vendors and some casual wagering. All of the races took place on the grass and some were simply on the flat, while others were over hurdles and timber.

It is very exciting to watch steeplechase races because they don’t start out of a gate. The horses are led to a starting area where they don’t even get a chance to truly line up before they are off covering great expanses of ground. It requires horses with fantastic endurance, agility and speed. The sound of thunder as they come down the home stretch is always my favorite. It is exhilarating to watch and always has a relaxed way about it because of the picnic like atmosphere that tailgating provides.

This year’s Point-to-Point was smaller than usual since it was held on Easter Sunday, but overall, it was a fun day for all.
