In this article, I am going to share a couple of methods for removing those pesky black marks on your white Breyer horses.
Perhaps you have had your horses in storage for a long period of time or you just found a great addition to your herd at the local flea market or a garage sale, but you notice that your model has a few black marks on the white areas of his coat. What can you do to get rid of these undesirable blemishes and restore the beauty your model once had when it was brand new? Well, you are in luck because a couple remedies other than soap and water exist for those hard to remove black spots.
1- Scratching Off 2- Rubbing Off
These two methods are ONLY for removing black marks from your white Breyer horses!
Scratching Off
The first method is known as “Scratching off” and is best reserved for use by someone who is more advanced in handling model horses since it is the hardest of the two methods and requires great care.
Using the sharp blade of a knife or razor, lay it flat against the horse, keeping in mind that you are not digging into the horse, just scraping the surface smoothly. Carefully move the blade in one direction, repeating the motion until the black spot has been removed.
After you have practiced removing a few spots this way, you’ll be a pro in no time! This method is best used when the spot is raised or doesn’t respond to soap and water or rubbing alcohol and is best used as a last resort.
Rubbing Off
Pour some rubbing alcohol into a small container ( the cap of the bottle will do nicely). Take a cotton swab and dip one end into the alcohol. Using light up and down strokes, gently rub the tip over the black spot until it disappears. Super easy, right?
Take care not to touch any colored areas on your horse as the rubbing alcohol will remove the paint from your model and you will be left with an unusual spot! I learned this the hard way:(
Now you never have to worry about buying a model with black spots on it because you know the secret to removing them.
Again, I want to remind you these methods are only for your white Breyer horses.
